Individualized consulting services under Advancing Entrepreneurship in the Mon Valley have been generously supported by our program under our grant from the Economic Development Administration.  No fees are charged for these individualized consulting services.

Director, Urban Entrepreneurship Program


As Director of the Urban Entrepreneur Program, Rhonda Carson-Leach is responsible for developing and implementing an entrepreneurial development program focused on providing consulting services, educational programs and network-building services to address the needs of urban entrepreneurs.  She is also lead facilitator for the Institute´s Urban Power to Prosper, a nine-month certificate program for small business owners in urban neighborhoods that explores such topics as access to capital, financial management, strategic planning, sales strategies, access to new markets, and managing human resources.

Rhonda Carson-Leach has over 16 years of experience motivating small business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, nonprofit leaders, groups and individuals in a career or life transition to use their innate abilities to master their goals and achieve success.  Her areas of expertise include leadership development, conflict resolution and group dynamics.  She is also an executive life coach, management consultant, corporate trainer and motivational speaker in the Pittsburgh area.

Rhonda Carson-Leach was honored as one of 50 Women of Excellence by the New Pittsburgh Courier in 2009 and as a Minority Small Business Champion by the U.S. Small Business Administration in 2005.  A member of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania, she has served on the boards of the American Society for Training and Development, YWCA of Pittsburgh, Children/Adults Recreational Services, Urban Youth Action, Inc., and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women´s Club, Inc.  She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Lindsey Gilkes Lindsey Gilkes
Senior Management Consultant


Lindsey Gilkes joined the Institute as a business consultant in 2007.  Since then she has provided business consulting services to a diverse range of new and existing closely-held businesses.  As a Philadelphia native, Gilkes became partial to Western Pennsylvania upon her relocation to Washington & Jefferson College.

Although Gilkes works out of the Greene County and Washington outreach offices, she functions as an integral part of the Institute team seeing as she is familiar with this select market and supports western Pennsylvania businesses.  The core of her consulting work revolves around strategically analyzing functional areas of businesses such as management capabilities, financing, income, cash flow projections and loan packaging.  She also specializes in conducting market research of new, existing and potential markets.

Durwood Hill Durwood Hill


Durwood Hill joins the Advancing Entrepreneurship in the Mon Valley Team with over 25 years of experience as a finance professional.  Durwood has a record of improving organizational performance through effective leadership, resource alignment, and targeted performance metrics.  Durwood has worked in highly-complex financial environments to assure capital was effectively employed and monitored and results were accurately reported.

As Finance Director for the McDonald´s Corporation, Pittsburgh Region, Durwood designed and implemented performance management processes that helped drive the region to become the top-performing region in the United States.  Durwood also has 11 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant for Deloitte and Touche LLP.  Durwood holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Master of Business Administration from East Carolina University.
